80. Memorize my license plate & bank account numbers

image

Complete! I wish my license plate was as easy to memorize as the one above! This goal isn’t a hard one, but it is one I have been wanting to do for awhile. I have always had these numbers memorized, but in the last few years I have changed them so many times I lost track.  I finally have them down! No more pulling out my checkbook to look up my bank account numbers. Yipee!

14. Bear my testimony 4 times in one year

Today was fast and testimony meeting. We had 2 baby blessings today and it was a packed house, needless to say I just couldn’t bring myself to get up in front of all those people.

I don’t know why this frightens me so much. I would much rather give a talk any day. At least I have it written down (word for word) what I am going to say. I would never find myself drawing a blank if giving a talk.

However, in Relief Society we leave a little bit of time after the lesson is over to bear our testimonies if we didn’t get a chance to in Sacrament….and I did it! I actually got out of my seat and spoke without knowing what I was really going to say.  I bore testimony of the importance of Relief Society and the importance of knowing we are daughters of God. There has been a couple things happen recently to strengthen my testimony of both these things.

So do you think this should count as one of my “4 times”?

Maybe next time it will be in Sacrament meeting…

Failed! Dang those upstairs neighbors!!

March 22: Day 1

70. Make an art project and hang in my home

Complete!

My sister, Andrea, is in town for a couple of weeks and she always has a project up her sleeve. When she asked if I wanted to make a “Happy Birthday Banner” to hang up in my home when it is someone’s birthday of course I said sure! Didn’t it turn out cute? It is better in person and it even matches my new living room colors. I can’t say I did all the work though. I had to leave to go put Luke to bed so she helped me out with it. Thanks Andrea for helping me cross off another!

4. Read 5 books from the Time's list of 100 greatest novels

image

I thought I would choose one book from the Time’s List of Greatest Novels to get started on this goal. As I was reading through the list, some of them stuck out to me and I want your opinions on them. The first one is, “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.” by Judy Blume.  This one jumped out at me only because while studying Elementary Education it was talked about quite a bit, but I never had the chance to read it. I know the reading level is high school and it is quite short, but what is your opinion…is it worth reading?

And what about “Atonement”, by Ian McEwan? I know it was made into a very popular movie, but how is the book?

I think I may just go check one out from the library this weekend.

30. No complaining for 1 month

This is an extremely hard goal for me to accomplish because I have mastered the art of complaining, but I really want to kick this habit (or at least give it a try).

Today is Day 1.

I knew I was going to have to start early on this goal because there may be quite a few day 1’s on this goal. I thought if I start early maybe by the third year I will be getting closer and closer to reaching this goal. Cross your fingers and don’t give me anything to complain about!

97. Create a calendar to remember birthdays

IMG_1359

Yay!!! I completed my first goal. This one wasn’t  hard, but it was something I have been wanting to do for a long time. I am horrible at remembering birthdays so I wanted to change that by creating a calendar that would remind me ahead of time. This way it will also helped me with my goal of sending out homemade birthday cards and actually have them arrive on their birthday. I used the website birthdayalarm.com and filled in all the birthdays I want to remember. It will send me an email reminder a couple days in advance and then one on their birthday. Hopefully this will be fool proof. I guess you will know if it is working if you get a call on your birthday.

Welcome! Welcome!

As I was browsing the web the other day, I stumbled across a website (http://dayzeroproject.com) that intrigued me. I am a list maker. I love making lists. I probably make too many lists (lists of lists), but it keeps me organized so when I saw people were making a list of goals to accomplish I decided I needed to jump on board. This is a different kind of goal list though, one that gives me a little bit of time to accomplish them. Here is the basic concept of this project:

The Challenge:
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. They can’t be generic like “be a better person”. You need to set specific goals about how you are going to be a better person. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on your part).

Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past - frequently simple challenges such as New Year's resolutions or a 'Bucket List'. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organizing and timing some tasks such as overseas trips, study semesters, or outdoor activities.

Sounds fun, huh?

We will see as I start doing this. In order to complete this, I will have to work on about 3 goals per month (not too bad, right?). A lot of people set goals that they want to remain private, but I decided I wanted to make all my goals ones that I don’t mind sharing. Some of you may read my goals (listed on my sidebar) and think, “Run a mile? Really, Kristin? That’s not hard!” Well for me it is. I despise running. I wanted to make some goals challenging, some for my health, spiritual ones, others for Luke, some for knowledge, and many just for fun. My hope is that as I complete some of these goals that will help me be a better person I will want to keep going even after my time frame is up.

So is anyone with me?

That’s ok. You are welcome to follow my progress on this blog anyway. This blog is going to be strictly dedicated to my progress, my successes and my failures. I will only be posting on here if it is relevant to my goals. And if any of you decide, hey this might actually be a good idea, let me know that you have jumped on the bandwagon so I know I have some fellow companions (wink).
